An Allergy Free Baking book has finally arrived!

Section One

This section gives an idea of the processed foods that you may need to remove from your child's diet. It is a fairly comprehensive list. However it is very important for you to get into the habit of checking every food label carefully.

The foods you assume are all right may not be. It is amazing what ingredients are used in processed foods. Manufacturers are notorious for changing the ingredients in products without notice in the continuous effort to make foods look and taste better. If you are not sure whether the food is safe for your child then you can contact the manufacturers direct with any queries. I have found them most helpful on several occasions.

Most major food stores produce lists of their products that are suitable for Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Sugar Free, Soya Free, Egg Free and now Nut Free diets as these are the most common foods to cause problems. If you ask at the Customer Information desk they will give you the address to obtain the lists of  foods available in their store for special diets. It is still important to double check the labels because the lists you receive may not be up to date.

E for Additives by Maurice Hanssen is a book I would highly recommend and worth investing in. Its tell you everything you should know about the additives in our foods and explains what the 'E' numbers are on the food labels.

Section Two

There are many medical Conditions whose treatment may involve a restricted diet for your child either short term or long term.

This section starts with a simple guide on how to tackle the challenge of having to modify your child's diet. It is very important that you gain professional advice if you think your child has an Allergy or Intolerance to a food. You will need to approach your G.P. first, who may refer your child to a Paediatric Dietician. If your child is under five then you could approach your Health Visitor for advice.

I have also included a cross reference chart to make finding recipes that might be suitable for your child's diet easier.

The recipes that follow were compiled from the information available about Food Allergies and Intolerance at the time of printing. However there is Continual Research being carried out by various organisations so advice may change. Please check with your G.P. or Dietician about any new evidence that may affect the advice given.
